Finding a Surgeon Who Specialized in Scar Removal that Fits Your Needs and Your Budget

Scar Removal Options – Which Option is Right for You?

There are many different methods used to remove scars. My twelve year old was starting school and was feeling self-conscious about a scar she had on her face and a very large scar on her upper arm & shoulder. She was about to start going to a new school that year. My first inclination was that it wasn’t such a big deal, you’ll meet lots of people who have scars, I have a few scars myself. I assured her, “You’re beautiful and if someone doesn’t like you because of a little scar on the side of your face, you don’t want that person for a friend anyway.” I got the typical response, half a smile, rolled eyes and, “You’re my mom, you’re supposed to say that I’m beautiful.”  On second thought, I realized your face is one of the first things people notice about you.

My daughter had a nasty scar going down her face, from in front of her ear, and down to the area under her chin. Her shoulder scar was a mark left from a burn. She got these from an auto accident we had when she was 10. We could live with scars verses her almost dying. But now she has turned into a self-conscious teen and kids in her age group can be kind of mean and petty. So I knew it was time to begin looking at the other ways to remove scars, doctors, reputations, and pricing.  BTW, this is one great option for scar removal surgery in Rockford.

I starting doing some research by searching online and reading magazine articles.  There are gels and creams for reducing the appearance of scars, dermabrasion, laser removal, silicone sheets, and surgery . I went over our choices with my daughter. I asked her what she expected to happen. It took less than a week and I found a doctor who was licensed and certified and who specializes in scar removals. Plus he had an excellent reputation and the price fit our budget.

We went in for the meeting with the doctor. We had a meeting with the doctor as well as a psychologist. He examined her face and arm. He said for the arm injury , plastic surgery was advisable, and for the scar on her face, steroid injections then laser removal . The results were just what we anticipated. Now I have happier 12 year old. Weeks later when her 6 year old brother came back from his summer vacation, when he first saw her he said to her, “You’re really pretty.” She got her confidence back and feels like she can wear her favorite clothes again. Doing research on scar removal and going to this site was a big help in making our decision about the surgery.
